Random UK Phone Number Generator

Random United Kingdom phone numbers that look real but belong to no one. For test data, forms and mock-ups. They cannot receive SMS.

    Where these numbers come from

Ofcom, the UK regulator, reserves blocks of numbers for drama and testing: mobile numbers from 07700 900000 to 07700 900999, London numbers from 020 7946 0000 to 020 7946 0999, and 496 0xxx numbers under city codes such as 0121 Birmingham, 0161 Manchester and 0141 Glasgow.

None of them is ever assigned to a real line, so you can put them in a form, a mock-up or a script without reaching anyone. Switch to international format for numbers like +447700900123.

Need a number that receives a code?

A generated number is a placeholder. When a sign-up form sends a verification code, it has to reach a real line. ASMS.ai (formerly AnonymSMS, online since 2018) has both kinds: free shared numbers with a public inbox for a one-off code, and private numbers only you can read, paid per code and refunded automatically if the code never arrives.

    Frequently asked questions

    Are these real phone numbers?+

They are correctly formatted, but they come from ranges reserved for fiction and testing, so no real line has them. Nobody will be called or texted if you use one.

Can a generated number receive a verification code?+

No. A number that is not assigned to a line cannot receive SMS. To receive a code, use a real number: a free shared number at /free-phone-numbers for a one-off code, or a private number at /otp that only you can read.

What are fake phone numbers good for?+

Test data for forms, apps and databases, design mock-ups and screenshots, demos and training material, and fiction where a number has to appear on screen or on the page.

Is it legal to use a fake phone number?+

Using a fictional number as a placeholder or test value is fine. Using any number to deceive someone, to impersonate a person or to get around a service's rules is not, and may break the law or the service's terms.

Why not just make up random digits?+

A made-up number may belong to someone. Test messages, demo calls or a number printed in a book can then reach a real person. Reserved fictional ranges avoid that.

    Which format should I copy?+

National format (such as (212) 555-0147 or 07700 900123) for forms and anything a person reads. International E.164 format (+12125550147) for APIs, databases and validation libraries.
